Tiny Wins #2
Friday, June 12, 2026
Last month, we highlighted some little wins in this community and in the broader immigration world to provide a little bit of hope and fuel for our souls. Let’s do it again!
You all continued to make calls to our representatives, using your voices to tell your lawmakers that you care about the fair treatment of immigrants.
People are offering to help strangers study for their citizenship tests, and those strangers are passing their tests and becoming citizens! In a time when legal pathways are increasingly difficult to access, it’s so exciting when our neighbors are able to become citizens!
Earlier in June, a federal judge ruled that the Trump administration acted illegally when it froze green card, work permit, and asylum processing for people from 39 specific countries. This is likely to be appealed and take longer to move through the courts, but it’s an important first step for the system to begin operating again.
A man in North Lake detention here in Michigan needed $10,000 to be released on bond and is now safely home with his children and his wife. Praise God! And thank you to everyone in this community who helped contribute to his bond fund!
World Refugee Day is coming up on June 20, and people are getting ready to celebrate in their churches. Here is a great resource I found from World Relief. It’s not too late to implement some of their ideas, if you want to mark this day in your congregation.1
How can I pray? Let’s spend time giving thanks to God. Praise God that we live in a country where Congressional staffers answer and tally our calls. Thank God that a Michigan dad is at home with his family instead of in detention. Praise God for the judges who are upholding the rule of law. Praise God that we are not alone in our concerns for our neighbors.
And then, ask God to bring you a deep, restorative rest to sustain you for the days ahead.
What is one more thing I can do? Rest this weekend! Put down your phone! Go for a walk, or take a nap, or sit outside with a refreshing drink. To stay connected to this work, you need to occasionally step away from the ever-flowing news feed.
And, if you’ve got a minute before you disconnect, I’d love to hear about a tiny (or big!) win you’ve seen lately!
If this is the kind of thing you want landing in your inbox, join us!
Intersection friends, I’m out of town for World Refugee Day. Maybe one of you will feel led to offer one of the prayers in the toolkit at church on Sunday. ;)

Big win: my son's friend was unexpectedly released from detention this morning & is now home!
Big win: God provided an amazing network of people to provide support for the sister of a dear immigrant friend who is in a very difficult situation. God led us to the exact right person in the sister's city (in another country) to be an incredible advocate for her. Recently some of us here put resources together for this young woman to have a laptop to do online English classes. I have watched God make these amazing connections before across cultures and borders. I stand in humble gratitude and amazement. I am thankful to serve a God who sees the whole picture and is not limited by distance or culture or assumptions, and who brings us together through his love.
